Children’s Programs

Calvert Hospice understands that youth and teens need support after the death of a loved one. We offer children’s programs that allow them to participate in discussion groups and creative activities while they learn coping skills.

Individual child and teen grief counseling is available upon request. Contact Sarah Kernan at skernan@calverthospice.org or (410) 535-0892, ext. 2206 for more information.

In-School Grief Support Groups

We offer free in-school grief support groups at many of the local schools throughout the school year. In-school grief support groups offer children an opportunity to meet with their school counselor and Sarah Kernan, Calvert Hospice’s Child & Teen Bereavement Coordinator. The groups can help children connect with others who have also experienced a loss, share memories in a supportive environment, and learn coping skills and strategies for managing their grief. Please contact Sarah Kernan if you would like more information.

Individual Grief Support for Children

Our Child & Teen Bereavement Coordinator offers free sessions of individual grief support for families of hospice patients after their loved one dies. Four sessions of grief counseling are also available for community members for $35 per session. During individual grief support sessions, clients receive tools and techniques to help cope with loss and aid in healing. Individual grief support sessions are not therapy.

Include relationship to the deceased and date of death
