Community Events

These third-party community events are planned, advertised and executed by people in our local community who wish to support the mission of Calvert Hospice.

Some examples of such events include:

The Poker Run for Calvert Hospice

For fourteen years, Chris Bowen and Heather Scott hosted the Poker Run in June to raise thousands of dollars in support of Calvert Hospice. Participants paid a fee to travel throughout Southern Maryland by motorcycle or car, making stops at different venues to pick up a card for ‘their hand’ and finish up back at their starting point. Participants ended their ride with a party, enjoying music by DJ Rick, great food, live auction, and door prizes. Sadly, Chris Bowen passed away in 2020. His friends and family hosted  a Poker Run in Honor of Chris Bowen on September 25, 2021. Proceeds were donated to Calvert Hospice. To learn more contact Sandy at (443) 684-0772 or Judy at (443) 968-1373.

Asbury Solomons Mardi Gras

Each year, the residents of Asbury Solomons host a Mardi Gras to raise funds for Calvert Hospice. Attendees are treated to authentic Louisiana cuisine, swing music from the Chesapeake Swing Band, and an evening full of fun with friends. Residents raised money for Calvert Hospice in 2022 with a donation drive!

Michael D. Schrodel Golf Classic

The 19th Annual Michael D. Schrodel Golf Classic, organized by Teresa and Carmen Schrodel, will be held on July 22, 2022 at the Breton Bay Golf & Country Club in Leonardtown. It is an annual event that raises money for Calvert Hospice and a scholarship fund at Frostburg State University. The 2021 Golf Classic raised over $8,000 for Calvert Hospice! We are so thankful to Carmen and Teresa Schrodel for their continued support each year.

Sneade’s Ace Home Center

From December 17 – 24, 2021, shoppers at Sneade’s Ace Home Centers in both Owings and Lusby had the opportunity to “give a gift that counts.” Shoppers who donated $5 or more to Calvert Hospice received 20% off regularly priced merchandise! The amount raised in 2021 was $15,000! We are so thankful to Sneade’s Ace Home Centers for their continued support of Calvert Hospice.

Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum 5K Run/Walk

Calvert Hospice partnered with Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum to host a 5K Fun Run/Walk on March 26, 2022. The 5K was held at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum and offered options for both runners and walkers. We are so thankful to everyone who participated!
