Volunteer

Calvert Hospice relies on its dedicated trained volunteers to assist with patient care, bereavement support, administrative tasks, special projects, and fundraising. Volunteers also operate our Shoppe for Hospice, a boutique with high-quality, new and gently used men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, and select furniture.

Volunteers participate in hospice training, which includes instruction in the hospice philosophy, care for patients and their families, boundaries, family dynamics, and the process of grief. Volunteer Opportunities:

Compassionate Care

We are looking for caring and friendly volunteers to visit patients in their home or nursing home to provide companionship to patients, offer respite for caregivers, run errands, or offer transportation to appointments.

Veteran to Veteran

We are looking for veterans who would like to serve the veterans under hospice care. Service can include attending salute ceremonies or providing respite for caregivers. Veterans who volunteer for salute ceremonies only attend a one-time training; those interested in sitting with patients must complete full Calvert Hospice training.

Bereavement

We need compassionate volunteers to work with surviving family members of hospice patients and others in the community who are grieving the death of someone close. Volunteers facilitate Bridges, a family support group held twice a year, and work as “buddies” at Camp Phoenix, a 3-day summer camp for children who have suffered losses.

Hospice Office Front Desk

We are looking for friendly, detail-oriented volunteers with good phone skills and strong people skills to answer the phone in our front office and help with other administrative tasks.

Special Events

We need fun people to volunteer for outreach and development events on an as needed, per event basis. This includes attending planning meetings, all necessary coordination, and attending the event.

Shoppe for Hospice

We are looking for people to work in our upscale resale boutique store in Prince Frederick. You don’t need previous sales experience, just a friendly smile and a positive attitude.

Pet Therapy

We are looking for volunteers with therapy animals who would like to visit with hospice patients in their homes or in local facilities.
