We Honor Veterans
Calvert Hospice has become a national partner of We Honor Veterans, a pioneering campaign developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Calvert Hospice currently has a Level Five Status with the VA-NHPCO Partnership. To achieve Level Five, Calvert Hospice expanded its efforts to promote hospice care to veterans in Calvert County. In Levels One, Two, Three, and Four, we provided education to staff, volunteers, and the community at large about veteran specific issues and implemented agency wide policies to monitor and address veteran needs. Calvert Hospice reached Level Five in February 2020 by continuing our efforts to honor and care for the veterans in our community, reaching out to the community with educational opportunities, increasing our efforts to help veterans attain benefits with the VA, and recognizing Vietnam veterans for their service.
Veteran Salute Ceremonies
Calvert Hospice is privileged to offer veteran patients a “Salute Ceremony,” in which staff and volunteers honor the veteran’s service to our country. Surrounded by family, friends, staff, and volunteers, the veteran is presented with gifts of appreciation that may include a certificate, pin, readings, and a branch specific blanket. The ceremony culminates with a heartfelt salute to the veteran from fellow veterans.
